The Secret to a Better Sandwich - Three Easy Lunch Sandwiches That Taste Anything But Ordinary
March 04, 2026
Lunch doesn’t have to be boring.
We're quite lucky here at Calder's HQ with an abundance of tasty jars in our fridge - call it an occupational hazard! - So we're quite well versed in knowing how to turn a simple sandwich into something seriously special in minutes.
Here are three quick lunchtime ideas using our favourite jars. Give them a go, tell us what you think and share your own creations with us.
Coronation Chicken with Sillylilli
This is a lighter, fresher take on the classic coronation chicken.
Mix shredded roast chicken with a generous spoon of Calder’s Kitchen Sillylilli, a couple of tablespoons of Greek yoghurt, and a sprinkling of sultanas (optional). The Sillylilli adds sweetness, spice, crunch and a gentle tang that works beautifully with the spices.
It can be made veggie using Quorn pieces instead of chicken and vegan by using plant based mayo as a replacement for yoghurt.
Pile into a soft sandwich roll or toasted sourdough and add a handful of crisp lettuce.
It’s creamy, fresh, and far more interesting than the average chicken sandwich.
Grilled Tuna & Cheese Melt with Tomato Chutney
Comfort food at its best.
Mix a tin of tuna with a little mayo and black pepper. Spread onto thick slices of bread, add mature cheddar, and finish with a spoon of Calder’s Kitchen Tomato Chutney.
Grill until the cheese bubbles and the bread turns golden.
The chutney brings sweetness and depth that cuts through the richness of the cheese — making this a melt you’ll want again and again. Liven things up by upgrading to Spicy Tomato Chutney if you fancy a lunchtime kick.
We are grilled sandwich fanatics at home and the tuna & cheese melt probably gets an outing most weeks in our kitchen!
Roast Beef & Piccalilli
Sometimes the classics really are the best. I'm going to be honest here - this was a customer recommendation, passed on to us at a local food festival and I needed some convincing at first. But it works. Really, really well.
Layer slices of roast beef onto crusty bread, add rocket or watercress, and finish with a generous spoon of Calder’s Kitchen Piccalilli.
The bite and and crunch of the piccalilli lifts the richness of the beef perfectly.
It’s simple, bold and absolutely packed with flavour. Works equally well with Chillililliif you want to take it up a notch.
The Secret to a Better Sandwich
A great sandwich isn’t complicated — it’s all about the jar that brings it to life.
A spoon of Calder’s Kitchen adds crunch, tang and depth to everyday lunches, turning a quick sandwich into something worth looking forward to.
