Description

Based on Grandad Charlie's homemade traditional Piccalilli recipe. Each jar is packed full of chopped, crunchy vegetables with a fine balance of sweetness and pickle. It's the way piccalilli used to be; a wonderfully distinctive British condiment that can be enjoyed all year round.

A staple for the cheese board, a ploughman's platter, or in a ham or cheese sandwich.

The story behind it:

Grandad Charlie used to make this original piccalilli from his own vegetables, grown in his back garden. A favourite lunchtime snack back in the day was what Charlie called ‘Cheese Dreams’: a classic cheese and piccalilli sandwich toasted under the grill. The beauty is in the simplicity. Read our blog about the origins of Piccalilli and give it a try today!

Calder’s Kitchen top tip:

In their own words

Don't just take our word for it

Real people, real jars. Here's what they had to say.

“I've never liked Piccalilli until today.”

“The best I've ever tasted.”

“The best Piccalilli I've ever had.”

“The nicest Piccalilli I've tasted in my existence.”

“Buy this, it's amazing!”

“The best Piccalilli ever.”

“Gave it to my son, and he said it's the best piccalilli he's ever tasted.”

It started in Grandad Charlie's kitchen

Calder's began in the 1950s, when Grandad Charlie started making pickles in his kitchen for family and neighbours, a milkman from South Shields with a serious knack for flavour.

We still follow the same spirit today: bold flavours, small batches and proper ingredients. Every jar is made in his memory, just as he made it.
